Media Studies

For media studies i'm doing a protect with Seetai. We are taking photos and videos of the school and interviewing some of the teachers and students and putting it into one big video to show people what our school it like.

the first one is one of my best art works because it has lots of shading and some symmetrical lines.

The second one is one of best best because there are some shading on the robot to make it 3D. the robot carrying the shopping bags  is helping the old robot with her shopping 

Robotics and Programing

In my robotics and programming class i'm learning to design a mars lander using programming.

 This is the design process so far that we have done for our mars landed,

First we look at mars lander and saw how to move the mars lander up and down and side to side and how fast you should make it go and which one works best. Then we drew a robot that we thought would work as a mars lander like what wheels would work best or if it was controlled by battery or something else. We got into groups of a few people and went and looked at some stuff you could use to make a model of a mars lander like Lego and sphero. We had to brainstorm each others ideas, we got the cups and straws and looked at how we could put them together to see how we could stick them together to try and make it move. Then we sat in a circle with some straws, tape, scissors and cups and cut the straws to fit in the cups so there was a cut in each end of the straw we made 2 of those so we used 4 cups and 2 straws then we put 2 straws on top to make a hole in the middle to put the sphero in so it would move. 

The temperature on mars is can get as low as 80 degrees Fahrenheit way below freezing. The surface on mars is rocky, with canyons, volcanoes, craters all over it and dry lake beds the red dust covers all most all of the surface. Mars also has wind and clouds just like earth does. It has lots of hills on it as well.I think the terrain could affect it by the dust getting stuck in the wheels or in the camera so you cant see also if it gets stuck on a rock.

I am making my design with wheels that can go over rocks and also with with wings so if it gets stuck in any rocks it can get out without breaking, also so it doesn't get stuck in all the dust. 

We have learnt how to control the robots on “Virtual Mars Yard” which is a game that allows you to drive a mars rover on Mars. While using this game we have learnt how to control a Mars lander using the X, Y and Z axis. You can also tan, tilt, zoom and even more depending on which rover you choose to drive. 

Our Robot has these parts because The mars lander i am designing will work because i have the right kind of wheels that won't get stuck on the terrain on mars. 

This will work because if i gets suck it will be able to get of it. This robot will be able to move around on any type of terrain and it will have wings.

Kumara Trip

On Monday, 9 April we went for a trip to Kumara,


Kumara is a small town on the west coast we went in groups and had four different things to do. We went for a walk to see Londonderry Rock then we went to the old swimming bath and saw where the men and women were aloud to swim because they were not aloud to swim together back then, we got given a pack with some different stories and had to get into a group and act it out, these stories were a old tails that everyone use to talk about our story was about a ghost that came and wailed and if she came that would mean someone if going to die.
It was called the banshee.
Then we had to go somewhere else and work together in groups to make a catapult and cross a river that we couldn't touch. Then we went inside and learnt about the history then we got given some sheets and got into groups and walked down to where the old hotel use to be because there is lots of information there so we could answer the questions on the sheets. I learnt a lot about the history. My favourite activity was the walk to Londonderry Rock because it was really fun.

Hey

My name is Alex Muir let me tell you a little bit about myself. i have been at Paparoa Range School since i was 7 and enjoyed nearly every minute of it.

It has been a roller coaster ride there has been a lot of ups and downs at this school. I have loved all the time with the girls like Caitlyn, Emily, Jess B, Jess G and Sammie and i will really miss  them a lot they have made my time here much much better i can not say that about the boys though. I have a lot of good memories some funny ones and some bad ones. that i will always remember like the water fights we have done and JessB and I walking all through the mud at school and all the camps i have had with them my favorite camp was the hanmer camp.

Thank you Miss J, and Miss Bell you have been great teachers and I will really miss you they are amazing teachers they have been my favorite teachers  that i have had and Miss Bell’s matching jewelry and thank you to Miss D for planning and organising some the fun school events that we have done. And thank you to all the board and home and school for help raising money for our school. I will miss most of the people at thIs school it has been a great 5 years thank you to most of the great people at this school that has made my time here great.

For the last 4 years i have had Mrs Weavers as my principal and she made a big change in the school and Even though we have not had our new principal for long i just want to say thank you to Mr Norrish for being here this term.  thank you everyone i have had a great time and i will really miss it next year.

Gold bar achievement 4 - Perseverance

Set yourself an endurance event time goal (maybe you want to beat your last time) and then train to achieve it. e.g. cross country, triathlon, or a cycle event


My achievement was beating my last time swimming. I know i bet my time because i did much better than the last time.

Gold bar achievement 3 - Honesty

Do at least three random acts of kindness. My first act of kindness is visiting an elderly person.

Gold bar achievement 2- Perserverance

My achievement for this task was to write a piece of writing to enter into a writing competition. This type of writing was poetry. We had to pick something to do a poem about and we had to enter the poem into a writing competition.

Gold bar achievement 1 - Perserverance

My first gold bar achievement was to improve my swimming and set a distance goal. My goal was 2km and i accomplished that by doing midland line swimming we had to swim 10 laps of the pool everytime we when swimming 1km = 40 lengths and 2km = 80 lengths. we had to do this in the blackball pool and i accomplished swimming 80 lengths.

One summer morning two cercle faced tall twins called mia and dave decided to go out for a walk in the forest next to there house. They walked down to the track and started walking to the sign they had brought food, water, phone's, map, rope and a rain jacket  so they were prepared for the walk. “Ok let's go” said dave.

As they headed further into the forest they started to see lots of gorse and stuff they had not seen on this walk before but they keep walking just thinking it was overgrown. Then they come to a cliff they have been walking for about  3 hours now so they call their mum and dad to see if there is meant to be a cliff and that they have just messed it but there is no reception “why is there no reception out here there always is” and that's when they realized they were lost they must have walked of the track without releasing.

They keep on walking and then out of the blue dave falls of the cliff only holding on to a branch mia just stands there in fright thinking what she can do the she peers over the edge and grabbed a big branch and put it down to him but it was to small he could not reach it “what can i do” she thought to herself. Then she remembers a rope in her bag just incase anything happened so she immediately pulls out her rope and hooked him around it and she pulls him up she nearly dropped him put she ganes grip and pulls him up the cliff.

So they look at the map and they see somewhere 10km away from the track there is a cliff It says it is very dangerous “let's walk the way of the map”. So they look where the start of the track was and try to go in that direction. Then they find the track they can see the birds and the trees and the cleared space where the track was. Then they see the sign there back they are so happy “Yay” Mia says in a cheerful voice. So they walk back to the house to see  what there is to do at home.

So the had some ups and downs and a lot of disasters. They had to persevere through it all dave falling down a cliff and them getting lost in the woods where things could of gotten bad but they got through it and in the end it was all worth it.

Netball

On Tuesday the 29th year 7 and 8 went to netball we played 6 games and we won 2 games. It was a lot of fun. We got into the semi play offs but not into the finals but we had good games

pitcher story

Every Tuesday we do pitcher story this is where we watch a video and think what we notices and write about it. Here are some of mine.

Week 6

He could soar through the sky and reach the unreachable. When he flew the was in his own world nobody could stop him. He loved to fly and let his imagination run free he could do anything he could fly. But as he got older his time began to fade \

Week 7

They use to go there for camping but then something happened the unknown happened. She always walked of to sit in the boat but this time it was going to change thing would happen. She went to the deepest part of the lake a knock happened. she thought to herself i imagining it it could be anything. I happend again but louder and again she stuck her oar in felling around tug tug  and it was goon and the other goon. She could not do anything she just had to sit there thinking drawing in  her book. The next morning she was goon but her book was still sitting in the boat with the word messily written I KNOCKED FIRST. Was what she drew in her book coming true ands if she had of ansed would this of happened.

Week 8

Hiding away scared freaking out trying not to get killed something going wrong “What's happening help please help”. There's too many robot he they have to get out They can't win. Then the head chief phone rings the robots spot the and go after them there running as fast as they can but they did not make it. Who was ringing? And if only they had rung and a different time.

Week 9

When you go fishing nearly fall off no i'm not going down then omg i see a shake chasing a fish go go go chase it come on i can get it. Splash nooooooo they are getting away ohh and now i'm all wet  dang it i will get you back one day ohh watch your back shake watch your back dude i mean it @$^^&(**^%$^^ ^^$%()(((*%*)__^$#&$ and you fish ohh wait you're already dead don't worry but you shake i wouldn't sleep if i were you. Goulp noooo “ hahaha i got you” siad the shake as he ate him “ gross DON’T TALK WITH YOUR MOUTH FALL.

Week 10

In a castle far far away where your dreams come true and all your thoughts are answered lived a magic fairy called caity. She was beautiful had short hair and loved to sing and loved the color purple. Everyday she would sing and dance to the sound of the birds chirping. One day as she was singing somebody came to the door it was another fairy called bubble she claimed that she was her sister. Caity was very confused so she let her in and look up the fairy family history and there she was bubble her little and beautiful sister. “Oh my wonderful sister i have always wanted a sister and i have had one this whole time i thought i was an only child”    “ but you have a brother to named mackpack” “what” caity said in a confused voice  he is the youngest in the family and a very chirpy boy he is.    155

Camp

Camp 2017 we went to punakaiki. It was so much fun we went caving, stand up paddle boarding (sup), bush walking, bomb fire, planting trees and talent shows. I thought that stand up paddle boarding would be hard but it was not that hard I did not fall of the paddle board but I did fall out of the kayak because someone in my group said it was the stable but it was not. The water was so cold and salty and it had eels and fish in it. After that we had a sand and water fight this was so much fun and it all started because we were making hair out of mud for our leader and jess go some on me so I got her back and we all started throwing it at each other the we went into the water to have a photo and jess felt something slimy so we both ran out of the water screaming and everyone else was looking us like we were weirdos and then i got back into the water and said to her that it was just a rock and everyone started laughing hahaha. I also thort that caving would be soooo scary and bad but it was soo much fun we had to walk through cold water and slid down hill and go through tight gaps some of it was sooo scary. We even had to climb up like a cliff thing in the cave. I HAD SOOOO MUCH FUN AT CAMP!!!!!!!!!!
